Frank Carson’s Estate: A Lesson in International Wills
Well-loved comic personality Frank Carson, who passed away in 2012, reportedly left no substantial UK inheritance from his UK assets.
Probate documents later showed that despite owning two houses in Ireland, Mr. Carson’s total UK estate only amounted to £8,000. Once all his debts were paid, this amount was, of course, completely wiped out, leaving no assets or money from his UK estate.
The Importance of a Spanish Will
Fortunately, Mr. Carson also owned a property in Spain. This asset was handled correctly due to careful planning. In his 2010 will, he wisely stated: “this does not apply to my property in Spain which is dealt with under the terms of a will made in accordance with the laws of that country.”

Mr. Carson was known as a kind and warm-hearted man, celebrated for his generosity and hard work with several charities. He notably raised money for the children’s cancer ward at Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.
It remains unknown whether his family plans to sell the Spanish property to access further capital, or if the home will stay within the Carson family. This case highlights the crucial role of international estate planning for assets held abroad.
